What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is the therapeutic use of hypnosis to help with a wide variety of problems or issues. I work with clients to help them manage anxiety or stress, combating things such as low self-esteem or confidence. I can improve your ability to relax, increase your sports performance or your ability to speak in public.

While hypnosis may refer to the process of inducing a trance to help promote communication between the conscious and subconscious mind, hypnotherapy refers to the process of using hypnosis to achieve a specific goal or outcome.

My Approach

There are many different styles of hypnotherapy out there. I was trained as a hypnotherapist with a Solution Focused approach.

What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a type of ‘talking therapy’, that combines the use of psychotherapy with hypnosis. Hypnosis or ‘trance’ is a very natural, relaxing state, encouraged by using guided relaxation, where the mind can relax and then focus on thoughts and suggestions that might be useful. As a modern psychotherapeutic approach, Solution Focused Hypnotherapy uses practical, structured, and well-researched strategies to help people make significant, positive changes in their lives in a relatively short period of time. Crucially, in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, we look at what the client wants to achieve (the solution) rather than at whatever prompted them to seek help (the problem).

Anxiety

Anxiety is a feeling of unease, such as worry or fear, that can be mild or severe.

Everyone has feelings of anxiety at some point in their life, but some people find it hard to control their worries. Their feelings of anxiety are more constant and can often affect their daily lives.

Depression

Phobias

The symptoms of depression can be complex and vary widely between people. If you're depressed, you may feel sad, hopeless and lose interest in things you used to enjoy.

A phobia is an overwhelming and debilitating fear of an object, place, situation, feeling or animal.

Phobias are more pronounced than fears. They develop when a person has an exaggerated or unrealistic sense of danger about a situation or object.

Exam Stress

Exam stress can be more than feeling nervous on the day of an exam. It can also be how you feel building up to exams, during exams and when waiting for results.

Difficultly Sleeping

Sleeping difficulty is when you have trouble sleeping at night. It may be hard for you to fall asleep, or you may wake up several times throughout the night.

Sleep difficulty may affect your physical and mental health. Lack of sleep may also cause you to have frequent headaches or trouble concentrating.

Low Self Esteem

When we have healthy self-esteem, we tend to feel positive about ourselves and about life in general. It makes us better able to deal with life's ups and downs.

When our self-esteem is low, we tend to see ourselves and our life in a more negative and critical light. We also feel less able to take on the challenges that life throws at us.

What can Hypnotherapy help you with?

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can empower you, giving you the tools needed to go forward in life, enabling you to be happy, confident, and always the very best version of yourself.

I have included some examples of why clients come to see me:

Who do I work with?

I help people of all ages and backgrounds to overcome a wide variety of challenges.

Additionally, my experience as a secondary school teacher and further study in Psychology of Education puts me in a uniquely qualified position to support teenagers and young people in particular.
